Looking for something sweet to give to a special someone on Valentine’s Day? Chocolate is a romantic favorite. In fact, the National Confectioners Association’s recent survey found that 94% of us hope to receive chocolate or candy for Valentine’s Day.

Historical texts have long referred to the use of the cacao plant as an aphrodisiac, but there’s also a scientific explanation for the association of chocolate with romance: As Dr. Anya Arthen, ND, writes, “Eating or drinking chocolate in a ritualistic and mindful way can help a person become more in touch with their senses. This increased mindfulness can be beneficial in improving sexual desire, as demonstrated by a body of research on the effects of mindfulness on sexual desire and libido.”

So chocolate not only tastes good, it can also make you feel good — a win-win for Valentine’s Day. But not all chocolates are created equal. At Nutrafol, we wanted to find a way to satisfy the craving for chocolate on this romantic holiday without consuming the excessive sugars and fats found in most of those heart-shaped boxes. We created a chocolate-cherry truffle that combines pure cacao with our hair-boosting botanicals.

The special ingredient

Each batch of chocolate-cherry truffles contains two full doses of Nutrafol, a natural supplement that helps support healthy hair. Nutrafol’s ingredients include horsetail, a botanical that naturally contains silica, which is known to increase strength of hair. It also has proper doses of vitamins like biotin along with ashwagandha, tocotrienols, curcumin, and saw palmetto, all of which show efficacy for use in healthy hair growth, seen in our clinical trial.

That means the sweetest part of this dessert isn’t its rich chocolate flavor or delicious bursts of cherry — it’s the benefits for your hair.

Below, find the recipe for Nutrafol Chocolate-Cherry Truffles and get ready to melt hearts with this chocolatey Valentine’s Day treat.

Recipe: Nutrafol Chocolate-Cherry Truffles

Makes 12 servings

2 very ripe bananas
1 ¾ cups gluten-free rolled oats
4 tbsp. pure maple syrup
¼ cup raw cacao powder
12-14 pitted cherries, chopped
2 ½ tbsp. cacao butter
8 Nutrafol (remove from capsules)
1 bar dark chocolate

In a large bowl, mash the bananas. Mix in the rolled oats, maple syrup, and cacao powder. Fold in the cherries. Heat 2 tbsp. cacao butter in microwave and add to the mixture. Let cool 1-2 minutes, then pour in Nutrafol. (Our capsules are designed to open cleanly and seamlessly so you can easily empty them into your dessert.) Shape mixture with your hands, pressing firmly to form 1-inch thick balls.

In a separate bowl, heat up the dark chocolate bar with the remaining cacao butter in the microwave. Use a spoon to dip the balls into the melted chocolate. Submerge completely, then transfer truffles to a clean plate. Refrigerate until chocolate hardens. Enjoy truffles as dessert after a romantic dinner.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
