This Is How You Air Dry And Style Your Hair Without Damaging Heat

Benefits of air drying your hair

To air dry your hair is healthier and milder than using a hair dryer, but it can take some getting used to. It can be hard achieving the look you want without any kind of heat styling tools. But still, the warm season is the best to learn. Here we list the best tips for how to tame your mane without any damaging heat.

Skip the Shampoo

Some stylists say, skip the shampoo entirely. Frizzy hair is due to dried out hair being exposed to moisture in the air. Since shampoo strips the hair of oils, it can often make the problem worse. “I sometimes will just rinse my hair and apply conditioner to the ends,” said hair stylist Kylee Heath. If this seems too drastic for you, maybe use shampoo once a week, or use a cleansing conditioner.

Before You Air Dry Your Hair – Get Rid of the Water

One hair stylist’s tip to a successful air dry is to shake the water out of the hair. “It sounds a little crazy, but shaking your head up and down for a few seconds helps hair dry faster,” said stylist Amanda Dyer. Then, squeeze the water out of the hair but do not rub it. The professionals use a microfiber towel rather than a cotton one, as it will leave the hair smoother. One tip is to wash the hair in the evening so you sleep on it one night before going outside. That will make the hair calmer and decrease the risk of frizz.

Detangle Carefully

Moisturize your hair with a leave in conditioner or hair oil to keep it soft and smooth.

Another pro tip is to not brush your hair while it is wet. Carefully get rid of tangles with your fingers instead, or use a wide-tooth comb dressed in a leave in conditioner. “Do not use a brush on damp hair! Do not wrap a towel around your head too tightly and always towel-dry gently,” said stylist Frederique Carme. Always use conditioner after washing your hair to get rid of the tangles right away.

Make sure to apply a leave in conditioner or a moisturizing hair oil after towel drying the hair. Let it soak up the moisture while it is drying. This will prevent frizz and keep the hair smooth.

Shape Damp Hair the Way You Want it to Look When it Dries

That is right – your dry hair will have the shape it has when it is drying. So to air dry your hair without it getting too unruly, make sure to shape it. Loose braids or twists are the easiest. You can also put it up in ringlets using small clips, which will lift the roots. If you want curls, use a curling mousse. If you want chill beach vibes, use a salt water spray that will give the hair texture and a matte finish.

Deep Condition Once a Week

Use a hair mask once a week to deep condition the hair. Filling your hair with moisture will make it easier to style it once it is time for that. There are a bunch of different types of masks you can easily make at home with what you have in your kitchen.

If you do use heat styling tools, go with modern ones that are milder. New hair dryers are made to be kinder to the hair. Also, make sure to use a heat protecting spray or cream, and do not heat style it too often.

Try Our 10 Life Hacks to Hide Greasy Hair

Greasy Hair

For the past few years it has been a trend to let the hair rest and not wash it too often. Sometimes you just need a trick to hide greasy hair. Well…we have ten great life hacks for doing just that!

1. Do not Wash It

Not washing your hair every day will save you a lot of time. The fact is that the scalp typically adjusts its sebum production according to how often you wash it. That is because if you remove the hair’s natural oils, the glands that produce sebum in the scalp will start to compensate by producing more of it. Get your hair used to not getting shampoo every day by washing a day later than you normally would, and then increase the time in between washes. If you get greasy hair in the beginning of the process, hide it using our other tricks below!

2. Use a Shower Cap

This will keep your hair dry on the days you shower without washing the hair. It will preserve your hairstyle and prevent the hair from picking up moisture.

3. Use The Right Kind of Products

Using a high quality shampoo with natural ingredients can help make your hair feel clean longer. And if you are trying to extend the time in between washes, just try to use as few styling products as possible. Oily products build up on the scalp and makes it greasy faster, so take that into account when you plan your washing days.

4. Dry Shampoo

This is the classic trick to make greasy hair disappear. Spray the dry shampoo of your choice on your roots, let rest and then style your hair as usual. If you are going for the more voluminous look, use the palm of your hand to rub the dry shampoo in and ruffle the hair around.

Greasy Hair
An easy way to hide greasy hair is to invest in a dry shampoo, but there are plenty of other tricks too.

5. Use Baby Powder

Some of us use the trick to grab some baby powder instead of dry shampoo. But don’t go crazy and dump a whole lot of powder directly on your hair. Instead, sprinkle some baby powder on a tissue, place it over your roots and scrunch it together with your fingers to spread it evenly on the roots. This will soak up excess oil without messing up your hairstyle.

6. Hairstyles Can Distract From Greasy Hair

If you do have a greasy hair day and are pressed on time, put your hair up in a style that distracts from greasy roots. The easiest is a slick ponytail, but if you feel creative and have a little more time, try a fake undercut. Do this by making two rows of French braids close to your head on one side. A super popular style is the “hun” – the halfway bun. Spray dry shampoo on your top hair roots and pull your top hair into a messy bun on top of your head. Secure it with hairpins and create a good amount of mussiness.

7. Accessories

Use accessories! A silk scarf around your head will make you look boho chic in a few seconds. A hat covers more, if you feel like it. If you have greasy bangs, a headband or a diadem is a good way to hide them until you have time to wash.

8. Change the Placing of Your Part

It can be as simple as that! If your hair is lying flat around your face it will look greasy faster than if it is in a crazy updo. No time for that? Just spray a little dry shampoo on the roots and turn your centered part into a deep sided one. Changing the direction of your hair roots will give the hair a little more bounce and it will immediately look more fresh.

9. Use That Hot Iron

A trick to make your greasy hair look less so is to just grab your curling iron and make some beachy waves (after applying a heat protectant, of course). Styling your hair in a different shape will take attention away from your roots. Spray it with some saltwater spray to make it the right kind of messy.

10. Hands Off!

The more you touch your hair, the greasier it will become. Makes sense, huh?

5 Steps to Creating a Healthy Hair Regimen

Healthy Hair

As you may know, healthy hair does not just grow overnight, no matter how much we wish it would. Of great importance for healthy hair growth is a regimen and a commitment to the process. When you get used to your new healthy hair routine and see improvements, you’ll want to continue for maximum benefits. But how do you get started? Creating a healthy hair growth regimen may seem overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. Follow these five simple steps, and you can start noticing the change in your hair with time and consistency.

1. Change your styling routine

Before you start anything too dramatic, start by evaluating how you manage your hair on a daily basis. Do you scrub it with extra sudsy shampoo, yank a brush through it, blow dry it, curl it, or use tons of products? Do you tug it back to style it, or play with it all day long? Three words: cut it out! This tends to be harder for women than for men, but it’s important to sometimes let your hair be. Stop shampooing it every day, use gentle products, and don’t yank or style it to death. Every time you interact with your hair, think, “Be gentle.”

2. Spoil your hair weekly

It’s probably hard to find time in your busy schedule to make time for just your hair, but if you want healthy hair, this can be especially helpful. Use an oil treatment once a week in your hair, and let it soak in for a few hours before you rinse it out. Try not to shampoo it until the next morning to let the oils really soak in. There are tons of ideas and recipes out there for creating a great hair mask or rinse – you can use these once a week as well.

3. Eat fats and proteins

If you are a notorious dieter, make sure you do not cut out the fats and proteins. You need lean protein and Omega 3 fatty acids to help promote healthier hair growth. Introduce nuts, veggies, fish (like halibut and salmon) into your diet, and cut out junk like caffeine, processed foods, and carbs. Your hair (and body) will thank you!

Healthy Hair
To protect your hair from damage, tuck it in when it is windy and don’t let it tangle too much.

4. Prevent damage.

You have already changed your hygiene and beauty routines, but you also need to think about other factors that result in damage. Did you know the sun can actually damage your hair as much as your skin? It dries it, leaving it broken and unhealthy. Cover your hair when you’re in the sun for a long time, and avoid frequent contact with chlorine from pools or salt from oceans. Tuck your hair in when it is windy, and do not let it get tangled while you sleep. Protect your hair just like you do your skin, and you will see how healthy it grows in no time.

5. Create balance

Anyone who has experienced hair loss or thinning knows that their hair is closely connected to their overall health and mentality. If you find yourself wanting to rip your hair out at work – that’s a sign! If you are unhealthy and have not been to a doctor to see what to do about it, your hair will often show it. Your hair can help indicate whether or not everything behind the scenes is properly balanced. Pay attention to it. Reduce stress, eat better, take better care of yourself, and you might find yourself amazed at your healthier hair.

Healthy Hair Through Supplements

If you are already taking steps to create a healthy hair regimen and want an extra boost, or maybe your problems are due to other things such as vitamin deficiencies, there are plenty of hair supplements with natural ingredients that could be an option for you.
