Summer specials: top hair treatment for dry damaged hair

7 Min Read

With summer comes dry and damaged hair. So the need for some good hair treatment is in order. Nutrafol has the best home remedies that will leave your hair in a healthy happy condition. So why not try one of these inexpensive at-home tricks that will condition your brittle, dried out, sun kissed locks.

Hair treatment for dry damaged hair 101

Wonders of the avocado

Avocado is not only beneficial for your health but also for your hair. So mash a ripe avocado with one egg and then apply this to wet hair. Avocados are as you may know rich in vitamins, essential fatty acids, and minerals that will help you restore luster to your hair. Leave it for at least 20 minutes, then rinse several times. If your hair is really damaged, use this remedy once a week. If it is healthy use it once a month.

Butter up

Yes, you read right. Butter is the way to go. Treat dry and damaged hair with a small amount of butter. Massage it into your brittle hair and then cover it with a shower cap, leaving it like that for about half hour. Shampoo as usual and rinse very carefully.

Condition it with olive oil

Olive oil is not only for cooking, it can be useful when put in the hair too. Especially if your hair lacks moisture. Warm up ½ cup olive oil but do not boil it, and then rub it into your hair. Cover your hair with a plastic bag and then wrap everything in a towel. Leave it like that for 45 minutes, then shampoo and rinse as usual.

Tea o’clock

You may think that tea is a sore throat remedy, but did you know that you can use it to give your hair a natural shine? Brew some unsweetened tea and rinse your hair with it as a final touch after shampooing it. But remember to use a tea that works with your hair color as tea can sometimes enhance hair color. Blondes should for example use chamomile tea because black tea may darken their tresses. Brunettes should use black tea to enhance shine and enrich color.

An apple a day…

keeps the doctor away as that saying goes. But apples are useful for your hair as well. Or in this case – apple cider vinegar. Nutrafol has previously discussed the effects of rinsing with apple cider vinegar but did you know that you can also make an apple cider vinegar mask? This mask is the perfect hair treatment for dry damaged hair as it will put the life back into your limp. Combine 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar with 2 tablespoons of olive oil and 3 egg whites, then rub the mix into your hair. Keep your hair covered for about 30 minutes by wrapping a plastic bag or a shower cap around it. Shampoo and rinse as usual after that.

Spice up your shampoo

Mix one egg with a small amount of shampoo, apply it on your dry and damaged hair and leave it for five minutes. Rinse well. This hair treatment helps to enhance the protein in your hair.

Botanical oils? Yes please!

A mircle hair treatment for dry damaged hair is actually something that is available at your health food stores. Olive oil, jojoba and sweet almond oil are all wonderful elixirs for your dried out hair. If you have thick and heavy hair, coconut oil works the best. Dampen your hair and apply small amounts of the botanical oil until your hair is covered. Cover it with a shower cap and a warm towel, leaving it like that for about 30 minutes. Rinse well and shampoo your hair as usual.
