Celebrating 10 Years of Nutrafol

A Decade of Innovation

We’re built on the belief that meaningful improvements in hair health don’t happen overnight. Real change takes time. Long before hair wellness gained widespread popularity, we were investing in research, clinical studies, and innovation designed to support hair and scalp health. Over the last 10 years, that commitment has remained constant as we’ve developed physician-formulated hair health products that deliver results you can trust.

As we celebrate this milestone, it’s an opportunity to reflect on a decade of growth—from early research and product launches to the incredible, growing community who have trusted us on their hair wellness journeys.

Our history.

2015–2017: The Foundation

We launched Hair Growth Nutraceuticals for Women and Men, establishing the core of what would become a comprehensive approach to hair wellness. These trailblazing formulas were developed to address 6 key root causes of hair thinning: stress, hormones, nutrition, metabolism, lifestyle, and aging. During these foundational years, we published our first paper in the Journal of Drugs and Dermatology, signaling our commitment to clinical validation. 

Recognizing that hair health is deeply personal, we also introduced hair wellness consultations with naturopathic doctors to support customers on their hair journeys, along with a Hair Mineral Analysis program designed to provide personalized insights into which root causes might be influencing a person’s hair health.

2018: Industry Recognition

Our Nutrafol Women Hair Growth Nutraceutical earned the Allure Breakthrough Beauty Award, marking the first major industry acknowledgment of our whole-body approach. Chosen by Allure’s editors and backed by expert review, the Breakthrough Beauty award recognizes the most innovative beauty products of the year—formulas that represent true scientific advancement and deliver meaningful results.

2019: Expanding for Life Stages

We launched Nutrafol Women’s Balance Hair Growth Nutraceutical, a formula developed to support women over the age of 45. The formula filled a long-standing gap in hair wellness by providing optimized support for hormonal changes during and following the menopausal transition. As part of our commitment to innovating for this unique stage in women’s lives, we are the first and only hair growth supplement brand with published clinical studies on menopausal women with hair thinning.** 

Around this time we introduced Hair Growth Duos, pairing targeted formulas with additional support to address root causes of hair thinning where needed, recognizing that hair health challenges vary throughout a person's life.

2020: Scientific Breakthrough

We were granted a patent for our Synergen Complex®, a proprietary drug-free blend designed to target multiple root causes of thinning hair simultaneously. Our Synergen Complex® is the basis of all our Nutraceuticals, which are formulated according to specific root causes impacting individuals of distinct life stages and lifestyles. 

2021 and 2022: Advancing Innovation and Support Across Life Stages

We achieved designation as the #1 dermatologist-recommended hair growth supplement brand. This recognition reflects the confidence dermatologists place in us as a science-backed option for people seeking support for healthier hair. 

In 2021, we continued to innovate, expanding products to support women during even more life stages with the introduction of Nutrafol Postpartum. This OBGYN-developed formula with breastfeeding-friendly ingredients helps support the significant amount of women who report experiencing postpartum hair thinning.1,2  

In 2022, we introduced Nutrafol Hair Serum, designed to provide targeted scalp support and complement the internal approach of Hair Growth Nutraceuticals for visibly thicker, fuller hair. By supporting scalp health, the serum helps create an environment for hair to grow and thrive. Not long after, Nutrafol Hair Serum was recognized in the industry by CEW Creator Awards, and we unveiled more scalp care products, like the Root Purifier Shampoo and Build-Up Blocker Scalp Mask. 

2023 and 2024: Reaching New Milestones

By 2023, our community had grown to one million people. We launched Nutrafol Women’s Vegan, expanding options for female customers looking for a plant-based option or one without biotin. That same year, we published research exploring the scalp microbiome—an emerging area of science that may influence hair health. This led to the launch of Active Cleanse 2-in-1 Shampoo and Conditioner for men, the first 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner certified to be microbiome-friendly, in 2024. 

The next year,  the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology published a study showing significant improvements in hair growth, coverage, and quality with Nutrafol Women’s Vegan—further proof of our commitment to providing our community with science-backed, efficacious products. 

2025: A Landmark Year

This year brought several firsts:

  • Launched the myNutrafol app, offering our support on your hair journey beyond supplements and scalp care.

  • Achieved the #1-selling hair growth supplement brand, allowing you to feel confident in a choice already trusted by so many with similar hair goals.§

  • Expanded into Ulta, making our products even more accessible and allowing you to more conveniently discover and purchase alongside your existing beauty and wellness routines.

  • Published randomized, placebo-controlled trial results for Nutrafol Men, showing high-level clinical proof, giving you greater confidence in its effectiveness for improving hair growth.

  • Hair Growth Nutraceuticals became the first and only hair growth supplements to be NSF Certified for Sport®, a third-party certification that helps consumers make safer decisions when choosing supplements, and includes a rigorous testing protocol for additional quality assurance. 

2026: Launching Men 50+

After reviewing over 300 scientific papers, it became clear that men's root causes of hair thinning change as they mature. Men's testosterone levels decrease by about 20% by age 50,3 creating distinct biological needs that require targeted formulation. That led us to launch Men's 50+—the first and only hair growth product specifically formulated for men over 50.

Celebrating and Looking Ahead

Today, more than 1.5 million people are growing with Nutrafol.* We have completed 26 clinical studies in hair wellness, including 3 randomized, placebo-controlled trials.

More than 7,500 hair care and healthcare professionals now recommend us, including over 6,000 healthcare providers and more than 1,500 hair salons. Our formulas have also received more than 40 beauty, wellness, and innovation awards.

This milestone is a celebration of everyone who’s grown with us over the past decade. From the beginning, Nutrafol has been built with—and for—our customers.
