What are heavy metals?
What are heavy metals?
Heavy metals are a broad group of naturally occurring elements in our environment. These elements include essential heavy metals, such as zinc, copper, and iron, and nonessential heavy metals, like arsenic and mercury.
What is California SB 646?
What is California SB 646?
California SB 646 is a law aiming to drive transparency for new moms and moms-to-be by requiring manufacturers of prenatal multivitamins, including dietary supplements intended for breastfeeding women, to test and publicly disclose the heavy metals arsenic, cadmium, lead, and mercury.
How does this relate to California Prop 65?
How does this relate to California Prop 65?
California Prop 65 is a “right to know” law that requires a warning on products sold in California that may expose consumers to potentially harmful levels of certain chemicals linked to cancer or reproductive harm. California SB 646 essentially expands on this enforcement by mandating testing and public disclosures of levels of potentially harmful heavy metals in prenatal vitamins.
What do the test results mean?
What do the test results mean?
In heavy metal testing, ppm is a measure used to measure low, trace levels of the concentration of a heavy metal within a food or product. Parts per million (ppm) lets you know how many parts of the heavy metal is present for every million parts of the total substance. Micrograms per kilogram (mcg/kg) lets you know the concentration of one microgram of heavy metal for every kilogram of substance.
While California SB 646 requires transparent testing results but does not set specific safety limits for the heavy metals being tested, Prop 65 does have set safety limits for testing that, if exceeded, requires a product to bear a warning statement. Nutrafol products are tested for Prop 65 heavy metals and are sold in California without a Prop 65 warning, meaning all of our products meet Prop 65 requirements.
